It's a great pole for anyone from the beginner to the advanced Purple Martin landlord. A fact that it was sturdy enough to withstand what was determined to be an inland hurricane we had and is simple and easy to raise and lower even with a 12 room aluminum house on top! It was part of my best year yet to help raise almost 100 young Martins. I have 2 of these poles and would recommend them not only for their use, but for the great price,[...] For the price and the quality of this pole, is the whole reason to shop Kotula's! Thanks!

Easily raise and lower birdhouses for nest observations and clean out. We anchored the sleeve (included) with a quick setting concrete and inserted the pole. Keys lock each section in place when you've reached the desired height. Very well constructed, durable steel and sturdy. My only minor complaint--the inner poles are supposed to be marked four inches from the bottom to prevent over extending each section when raising the birdhouse. We added the two story purple martin house, raised the first section and locked it, raised the second section past the point of no return and nearly tipped it over. This was easily remedied with a bit of paint. Highly recommended.

I purchased this pole along with the 12 room Martin house. Following the directions, the pole was fairly easy to assemble. I was not sure where I wanted to place the house permanently, so I sunk it down through a couple of the concrete blocks that serve as a small seawall along the pond behind my house and into the mud bottom. I then filled around with gravel. The house was top heavy on the slim pole and swayed, so I also secured the pole to the iron fence. About a month later we had a severe wind storm and it pushed the blocks and pole to an angle, but the house did not go down. I then moved the pole inland a few feet into a hole surrounded by an entire bag of cement. It still sways in the wind but the sparrows ...not Martins..... found their way back and are raising their families. I find the snaps are not easy to push in and lower the pole when necessary. Since I live in a hurricane prone area, I wanted a pole that could be lowered, but am not sure how the house and pole will fair, even lowered to the lowest position, I believe I will still have a hard time removing the house to safer quarters.
