Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

Although located only ~40 feet from receiver we still have times when it doesn't alert us to incoming traffic. This may be due somewhat to the metal structure of the building, but it appears to always work when pedestrians come down the drive, but certain vehicles never appear to activate it.

It is a good warning when someone drives in the driveway. But doesn't work all the time, not sure if the vehicle is moving too slow, fast or the color of vehicle makes a difference. The most annoying is it ringing in the middle of the night when the deer are out playing.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

Bought the Chamberlian alert system along with an extra receiver. I have adjusted both transmitters, the receiver, line of sight, replaced the new batteries and still the units only work occasionally. The units are set up less than 70 feet apart with no obstacles in their path, a direst line of sight between all units. I would not purchase another or recommend this alert system to anyone. It is very unreliable.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I purchased this driveway alert system in addition to one I already have that only alerts when vehicles pass. This one was suppose to alert for pedestrians too. I live out in the woods and have a 800 foot driveway, so I thought getting the Chamberlain with a 900 ft range would be perfect. Well, maybe if you don't have any trees. I set up the sensor and the extra one I purchased in various places before finally getting them to work at about 150 feet and one about 60 feet from the receiver. The one at 150 feet goes off about 75% of the time and the closer one about 10% of the time. I am still contiplating whether to return both for my money back. BTW the one I have for vehicles is 500 ft away and works fine, it cost less than the Chamberlain. Also they don't work at all when it's cold outside.

Alerts the house when anyone approaches the gate from either direction, that
includes my dogs.

Additional units give conformation and direction of all movement along my
property over 800'.

Works well with minimal line of site. Can be located at any level to adjust for
size of target subjects, high for cars/trucks, lower to include smaller objects.

After relocating the sensor and replacing the new batteries, then relocating the receiver a couple of times, I've come to the conclusion that I would not purchase another or recommend this so called alert system to anyone. My application has been set-up within 80 feet from each other (no obstacles in path) and the unit works occasionally. Not very reliable. 900 feet range... where did that come from?

Can't hear the alert - sound is too low. Doesn't even bother our pets. Now we have to go to the trouble and expense to purchase an alternate alerting system to hook onto the back of it, such as doorbell, light, etc. The system needs alert sound improvements.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I have purchased two complete systems with seven remote sensors. They have been in operation for over three years without failure.
I will strongly recommend purchase of this system to warn of intruders in long isolated driveways like mine. I have a quarter of a mile in a very wooded setting, but it works great.
I use two sensors in a row about 100 yards apart in case it is a deer or a bear instead of a vehicle or person. I also use them around the main house to get an alert in case of intruders.

difficult to adjust sensitivity
By MackinacJoe from Central Michigan on 8/18/2008
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

There are two problems regarding the sensitivity of the sender. First, it's a tedious process to adjust the sensitivity of the sender. Second, I was unable to adjust the sensitivity to detect a vehicle but ignore a person on foot.

Sensitivity is adjusted with two switches inside the housing of the sender. Each time you want to make an adjustment, you have to remove four screws, open the housing, switch one or two switches, put the housing back together, and replace four screws. It's too bad there isn't some way to switch the switches without taking it apart.

None of the four possible sensitivity switch combinations would let the sender detect a passing vehicle, but ignore a person or large animal. It either detected both or ignored both.

I might have been able to find the right combination if I had experimented with different locations and angles for the sender. But I just decided to live with having the buzzer sound on both vehicles and people on foot.

We've been using the unit for two months. Overall I would recommend this unit to others. But it's not quite as easy to set up as I had hoped.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I purchased this recently and have had good experience - it was easy to set up (I have 2 receivers) and install. The only thing I would improve upon is the depth of detection - it only detects motion up to 30' away. It does, however, have a very wide span...so much so that I had to cover part of one side so that street traffic does not set it off! All in all, it seems like a quality product for the money.

It does not reach anywhere near the 900ft. mark. I moved the receiver all around the house and it was only about 500ft. away at the most and would not receive a signal. But my hat's off to Northern Tools, they gave me my money back without any hassels.
This product might work properly if you are with in 150ft.?
My suggestion is to get a dog they are more reliable!

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

This alert system is NO GOOD! It says it has a transmission range of 1200ft, or 900 feet, depend which part you want to believe. How about NEITHER! I have a driveway about 600 feet long and this thing did not work until I got to about 100 feet from my house! What good is that? By then I can see who is in my driveway. I do not recommend this product at all.

I have used this detector for about three years and have been satisfied with it for the most part. It works better than another brand I had that cost twice as much. Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

The dogs have quickly come to recognize that the chime from this system means "visitors are coming!".

Our home is set back about 800' from the road, with the driveway going over the fields and thru the woods.... we never had much chance to know when someone was coming back for a visit.

I mounted the receiver about 600' feet from the house and it works great.... occasionaly a bunch of deer will walk by and we get a stream of chimes, but it rarely misses a car coming back.

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is that in winter, even with the weather shield in place, the sensor can fill with snow and stop working until the snow melts or I get up the driveway to clean in out.

I'd buy this item again.

I installed the alarm along the driveway to alert me of anyone coming or going. The line of sight between the receiver and transmitter is obstructed by a small patch of woods/brush, but it works great. Total distance is approx. 500' . No more surprise visits or people at my door without me already knowing they are coming. I would recommend this product to all.

Driveway alert system
By miacomm from Central Fl on 4/17/2008
Bottom Line:

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

Installed two months ago and has worked flawlessly. The distance from my driveway entry sensor to the location in the house for the receiver is only about 200 ft but the signal appears to function each time on people or vehicles. The post on which the sensor is mounted is about 20 ft from a right angle roadway where many vehicles pass so I used the angle feature on the mounting to focus it away from that road to keep out unwanted alerts. Also it is set to the lower sensitivity mode. Additionally I added a 12v digital counter to the auxilliary contacts so I could tell when there is an entry when we are not in the house and it will increment by one on each entry--not that we would necessarily know who it was but still helpful.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

We use one receiver and 3 transmitters - with average to good success!
We have connected the receiver to a door bell and hear it loud and clear!
We did notice light and speed can cause deviations in the quality of the system's ability to sound an alert. (92 % accurate)
Over all the units are working reasonably well for our application and the total investment.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I live near the end of a very private road. I need to distinguish between people who are merely lost and people who intend to visit. I've got one sensor/transmitter on the road and another at the driveway entrance.
Using the low sensitivity setting, I have had ZERO false alarms. The only time the transmitter fails to notify is when a vehicle passes on the far side of the road, going relatively fast. I attribute this mostly to the distance I have the sensor from the road, rather than the distance of the transmitter from the receiver station in the house. The transmitters have no problem communicating from their locations 900 feet and 300 feet with a clear line of sight.
I wouldn't mind having an easier method to change the tones generated by each transmitter, otherwise, if I had a use for another sensor/transmitter, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

The wireless alert system is pretty effective if placed correctly. Moving foliage or an insufficient field of view give false alarms or lack of alarm. Do not place the sensor in a Southerly orientation as the sun appears to overload it resulting in no detections. During rainstorms it will not detect vehicle traffic as the rain cools the engine's sheet metal covering sufficiently to prevent detection. Signal transmission from the sensor, through 200 feet of woodland and a brick wall is flawless.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

We have a small vineyard and winery that is open to the public but we don't always hang out in the winery with house work and farm chores to be done. Unfortunately, there were times when we didn't notice that a car had pulled in until they were already leaving. Definitely not good for business! Since installing the Chamberlain Wireless Alert System across the entrance to the parking lot, we have not missed a single customer. In fact, the early alert allows us to get out to the winery and get prepared for them before they can even get to the front door. When we first installed it, it often buzzed when a car was just passing by, but since aiming the transmitter slightly away from the road, we have not had a single false alarm. I now feel more relaxed when I am in the house, knowing that the Chamberlain Wireless Alert will let me know when I have a customer or visitor. We are extremely happy with this product!

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

The system is not costly nor difficult to install however it has some real limitations. There is NO way the system would work at 1,200 ft unless there were absolutely nothing between the sensor and monitor and the weather conditions were perfect. It works better on people and dogs versus cars coming down the driveway. It probably only detects 50% of the cars going down the driveway in spite of adjusting it several times. I guess it is not bad for what it cost however I would have paid twice the amount for a better unti.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

We had wondered "what we could do to provide security ", We live 1/4 mile from the road and never knew when people were going to arrive at our door welcome or otherwise. We purchased the Wireless Alert system as we had no power on our driveway. All we needed for the sensor was battery power. We wired the system base in the house and taught the sensor to the base, and off I trudged to see how far it could go, and still get a signal. I reached the top of the drive, and it still worked, the sensor was easily fixed to the fence post nearby. Now we are always alerted when some one has entered our driveway, all the pets, cats and dogs have learnt what the alert sound is. The product was easy to assemble, easy to install, and provides complete peace of mind, for our security. No surprises at our house anymore !!

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

One sensor is mounted at the end of our driveway, another in the front porch eave to monitor the front steps and porch. The driveway sensor is around 300 feet from the receiver -- through one wall. The porch sensor is ~40 feet from the receiver through 3 walls. Both sensors seem to report accurately. Deer will occasionally wander by the driveway sensor and my wife's decorative flag will get the one on the porch in really windy conditions. Overall though, I would not say that we have a problem with animals smaller than deer setting it off. Installation was very simple and performance over the past couple of months has been stellar.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

We live in a rural area of the Ozarks. Our house sets 1000 ft back from the county road. Frequently, visitors, delivery trucks, etc. would arrive at our house and we would not be aware of their arrival. We installed the Chamberlain Wireless Alert System transmitter on a tree beside our drive about halfway between our house and the road. The whole installation was very simple, took less than 10 minutes to do and everything worked perfectly the first time. We hooked the receiver to a doorbell system that sounds in our house and shop. Now, we know when anyone is coming down our drive. We have had it installed for two months now and it is great. The ONLY problem we have is an occasional deer wandering down the drive and triggering the bell.
Highly reccommend!

I remounted it and aimed the sensor away from the road and at about 30 degrees toward my residence. The unit continues to give me false alarms! After checking the unit and replacing 30 day old batteries, it still sends false signals. I need a unit that is more trustworthy than this system. It crys wolf to often. I intend to return this to Northern Tool.

This was my first purchase from Northern Tool. The item was on back order, but a couple of days later I received my tracking number via E-mail.

The remote is easy to set up and works great. We were able to hide the sensor in the front yard, and it gives us just the right amount of warning when someone is in front of the house.

I can't wait to get this as a gift for my family members.

We have 25 acres and have three transmitters on the system. It is great to know when people are at the pond, in the back or coming up the driveway. Be aware that they need a sturdy mounting surface (don't use a tree) as the wind may provide false alarms. The only thing that would make it better would be a low battery alarm but I have gotten a year out of one set of batteries.

I have installed them on my gates and shed. They each have their own number of beeps so I know wich gate or shed is open. I have three gates and one shed on the system and my wife and I refer to them by their beep number , gate one is one beep, gate two is two beeps, etc. Warm blooded animals and birds can set them off so you have to be a little carefull how you aim them to prevent to many false alarms. With squirls there is not much you can do but you get used to whats real and what isn't. If it is a real alarm someone moving through will trigger it more than once repeatedly. One single time is almost always a bird or squirl.

Overall a good wireless alert.
Works best in a window or next to an exterior wall closest to the transmitter.

It works great avoiding small animals and picking up people and cars.

I have this installed on my 500 foot driveway. I put one at the entry, one in the middle and one at the house. The sensor at the end of the driveway has no problem sending its signal to the receiver from 500 feet even through some trees. Because each of the sensors triggers a different alert tone on the receivers, I can tell when someone is entering the driveway or leaving from the house. Three sensors are a little much though because it will chime a total of 6 times everytime someone enters or leaves. I'm going to move the third sensor to alert me if someone enters my shop.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I purchased this and an additional transmitter about 6 months ago because I have 2 separate entrances to my property.
First, after trying multiple locations, I found that you really need unobstructed line of sight between the transmitter and receiver. In other words, no buildings, trees or structures in the way, and certainly not any hill or topographic feature to interrupt that required line of sight.
Second, even with a clear line of sight, I found that the receiver only alarms consistently and reliably when the transmitter is no further than about 400' feet away. Between 400' and 600', the reliability drops substantially. Over about 600' my unit will only alarm occasionally, and might as well not work at all. [Worse than having no alarm is an alarm you cannot dependably rely upon.] So, with those limitations in mind, then it works fine and I would recommend it. But I certainly wouldn't buy this if you assume it's going to work at a 1,200' distance as advertised. Maybe in the vacuum of space, but not the real world.
The manufacturer is no doubt restricted by the strength of the radio signal the transmitters can produce. If I were the manufacturer, I would offer small battery powered repeater stations, which could transform this product into potentionally unlimited range, and such repeater stations also could be located in such a manner to deal with obstructions between the transmitters and receiver. Just a thought.

I have had this unit for about 3 weeks and it is great knowing when someone is turning into my drive. I live at the entrance to a large state park and hear a lot of traffic noise. ie people stopping, changing drivers, etc. car doors opening and closing. I have a home office and this is a distraction. NOW I know when they turn into my drive without looking, this gives me peace of mind. I have a second transmitter at my front door/main entrance, this tells me when someone is on the porch or my pup wants in. The only problem I have had is a deer set it off the second or third night at about 1 AM. The next day I adjusted the transmitter and this has not happened again.

I purchased the chamberlain wireless alert to give my mother a way to know if someone was coming up our 700 foot driveway. The product has worked great after some initial tinkering to get the right angle to keep cars passing by from setting it off. That took only about 2 hours and after that it has worked great. I would recommed it to anyone who needs to know if someone is coming up the drive or is concerned with low level security alerts.

Have been using system for about two months. It is better than advertised. We have a long driveway with a slight knoll in it. When we are at our pond we cannot see vehicles coming.
Installed 1st sensor a our gate, 1/3 of a mile. Second halfway down. Receiver antenna is placed on window with direct line of sight to sensors. Hooke up to outside bell and buzzers in house. Never fails to alert us. We live in a very rural community which has been tagerted by large city thugs about fifty mile away.
Now we feel we have a fighting chance. Also have sensor aimed at back porch. This one also senses if back door is opened. With a 3 year old in the house who likes to escape and go to pond, we feel just that part is worth the money of this item.

Highly recommend for both quality and usefulness.

The Chaberlain Wireless Alert System is an inexpensive product for piece of mind. Living on a long driveway far off the road, it nice to have the capability to know when someone or thing is coming down the drive. Before I had the wireless alert, you would walk outside the house and be met by unexpected visitors. Now I know when people are arriving. Its' greatest use is when I am not home - it alerts my family to arrivals - that is my piece of mind.

THE END RESULT WAS THEY WOULD CHASE ALL THE DEER AND TURKEY OUT OF THE PROPERTY EACH YEAR. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHEN THE PEOPLE WERE TREASPASSING UNTIL I BOUGHT 2 OF THESE UNITS AND PLACED THEM IN BETWEEN TREE BRANCHES OVERLOOKING THE TRAILS. WELL THEY DID 2 JOBS. THEY ALERTED ME DURING THE DAY OF THE PRES. OF THE TREASPASSERS AND AT NIGHT ALERTED ME TO THE MOVEMENTS OF THE DEER AND WHICH TRAIL WAS FREQUENTLY BEING USED. THE THINGS WORK GREAT! THEY ARE ABOUT 600 FEET BEHIND THE HOUSE AND NO PROBLEM WITH SIGNAL. ONLY 1 MINOR DRAW BACK. THE ANTENNA FROM THE TRANSMITTERS ARE A LENGTH OF WIRE AND THE WIND BLOWS THE WIRE OVER. I CORRECTED THIS BY GLUING A PLASTIC STRAW ON THE SIDE OF THE UNITS AND PLACED THE WIRE INSIDE THE STRAW. YOU CAN PUT UP TO 4 TRANSMITTERS ON 1 RECEIVER SO DONT BUY COMPL. PACKAGES NORTHERN SELLS JUST THE TRANSMITTER.

We have a driveway that is 250 feet long, we were really excited to get this item because of the long driveway. The only problem we found with this item is when large vehicles go by it detects them. We also find that ants walking on it can also set it off. We brought the item up from the road a few feet and now are having no problem with it detecting the large trucks that go by. We love the warning you get from the products, its so nice to know someone is at your home before they are at your door. This is a great product for the elderly also, we purchased one with my sister to give to our parents and they just love it, it gives them a sense of security because they know now when someone is at their house before they are at their door which use to scare my mom when someone would be standing there and she didn't realize they came up the dirveway.

We have had several instances where we would see someone leaving out the driveway and we didn't even know they were there. I installed a transmitter at the mail box and one down by the creek. At first they worked like a charm but as time went on they seemed to lose their effectivness. Sometimes they work great and sometimes they don't. The range is okay for our property. It even works with the reciever in the kitchen where there are several walls between it and the transmitters. We now keep the reciever in the bedroom next to a window facing the transmitters. I have had the system for about two months now.

I use a third on private part of the drive too.

Comments about Chamberlain Wireless Wireless Pedestrian & Vehicle Alert System:

I love my alert system when it works. It lets un know when cars and trucks pass by coming into our driveway, although for some reasons it sometimes doesn't pick up cars. I think it may have to do with how fast a car passes by. We have had problems with rain getting inside the unit and shorting out the system. This causes the alarm to continuously beep every few seconds. The rain hood does not work because the rain blows in from the sides. We live in a wet climate and we have to unplug the unit when it rains.

I have read other reviews of this product and was a little bit leery about spending the money for something I wasn't sure would work. However, after being surprised, too many times, by people standing at my door when I'm walking out of the house, I had to do something. I have a very long driveway completely hidden from view by trees. I also have lots of doors on my house so if I'm at one end of the house and somebody is knocking at the door at the other end of the house, I usually don't hear them (my hearing isn't what it used to be). Anyway, I purchased the wireless reporter and two extra transmitters and it works beautifully. It couldn't have been any easier to install (unless somebody else did it for me). I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

My transmitter and Receiver came just as described. I installed batteries and screwed the transmitter to a fence post some 600 feet away and I put the receiver on the wall in my house. I now know when somebody walks or drives up my driveway, even before I can see them. Great for when people might be asleep in the house and somebody drives up. Great security device and piece of mind. Receiver even has a set of utility contacts that can be used to operate another device. I used mine to turn on an external light if its activated at night.

My brother had one of these and I was impressed. After requesting one for my birthday, then Christmas, and not getting it, I bought one myself. My husband installed it right away, and we both really appreciate it. We have it about 100 yds from the house, in a curve in our driveway, and not only does it tell me when a vehicle is coming, it also lets me know when our dog has gone past her limit.
I am really glad we have this and would reccomend it to anyone who has a long driveway.

This product works very well. Only downfall is how quickly it can go through batteries especially in cold weather.

Bought this for our rural driveway and love it... No more unexpected visitors. Also purchased an extra reporter for the rear of the house. I think it's cool how each reporter has a different beep to distinguish between them when in the house. The one at the rear alerts us to wildlife traffic within viewing of the house......

I ACTUALLY HAD A CHEAPER VERSION MADE BY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER THAT HAD TO BE POSITIONED VERY CLOSE FOR IT TO WORK . VISITORS WERE ALMOST AT YOUR DOOR BEFORE IT SOUNDED. IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY PREPARED FOR VISITORS , THIS IS A PRETTY HECTIC MOMENT. AFTER BUYING THIS PRODUCT, I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET PREPARED. IT WORKS SO WELL THAT MY NEIGHBOR WANTED ME TO ORDER HIM ONE, TOO. HE VISITED ME LAST NIGHT AND HE SAID THAT HE AND HIS WIFE LOVED THEIRS ,TOO. I HIGHLY ENDORSE THIS PRODUCT FOR COUNTRY PLACES WHERE YOU HAVE LONG DRIVEWAYS , OBSCURED VISION AND FRIENDLY NEIGHBORS. AN ADDED BONUS IS YOU KNOW VISITORS HAVE ACTUALLY LEFT, WHEN THEY DRIVE OUT. I purchased this item to use in my pasture where I have goats. It alerts me at night should any dogs enter to chase the goats. It also keeps track of things down there during the day. It is about 700 feet away from the monitor and works great. This is truly a well engineered and built product, not a piece of junk like you get nowadays. It is an excellant value. I would highly recommend it to family and friends.

I recently purchased the reporter driveway alert system. It is advertised to send a signal 1200 ft. The best I could get was 115 feet this was with the reciever being run on a battery and in direct line of sight. I returned it am still waiting for the replacement to try again.

I have this on the light post near my driveway. My house has a side load garage and there is no way to see the driveway. The Reporter is reliable in alerting me that someone or something was entered the driveway. There is a mute button in case the kids are paying out there or whatever. The mute stays on until you press it again.
My only gripe is the alert sound is a harsh buzzer sound when alerting you. I would have preferred a chime or bell, or even better a choice of any of these sounds.
Still it is so helpful with our layout, I would buy it again, buzzer and all.
4 out of 5 stars(due to buzzer sound)

Great! Wireless hookups now at about 300 feet, 2 units with independant sound warnings! Easy to install I would reccomend using the 9Volt "backup" in the receiver as this eliminates "re-training if the power to the receiver goes out.

I use the system to alert us when a vehicle is coming up our long driveway. The system works very well but because ot the size of our 3 floor house I wish I could purchase extra receivers so I could have one on each floor.

I have had this for over a year and I am glad too have it. I have a 100 foot drive way and don't always see the gate but with the reporter I can hear them coming.
SOme times something will set it off like dogs and cats tree limbs,I even had a spider make a home in it.but I know when a dog or cat is in the driveway
the batterys last about three too four months.when it gets stuck which is not very often with the push of a button it's re-set.I have gotten some for my kids house's and they are thankful; for them

For the Price this is a great Deal

Mechanical sound, easy to install.
Easy to adjust.....everything needed to be idiot proof.

Completely waterproof and tamper proof. Codes are put in place at home station.
What is needed however is an electronic version for those of us who have power at the sensor point. Or redesign with a built in charger that can be plugged in at the sensor point

I have a small instrument repair buisness in a building on my farm. Even with signs, customers go to the wrong building. So the alert lets me know when I have potential customers wandering around. The alert worked very well for about 6 weeks. But, then it began giving lots of false signals. After contacting the company, they had me return the transmitter for repair. It has been gone for about 1 week and I sure miss it. The company assured me that it will be back in operation soon. Hopefully, it will work as well and last longer this time.
